Do
you have a concern about your graduate education
that you would like to share and, perhaps, make better? Since July 1, 2004, the Graduate School has offered an
ombudsman to assist graduate students, faculty, and staff
resolve problems and conflicts. Associate Dean Tom
Atkinson serves as ombudsman. In the past year, Dr. Atkinson has interacted with about 130
people, mostly graduate students, on a range of issues
connected to graduate education. Examples of concerns brought
by students to the ombudsman include relationships with
major professors, conditions associated with graduate staff appointments, and
academic difficulties. However, if you would like
to discuss any issue related to your graduate education
and do not know where to turn, you are welcome to come
to the Graduate School.

Most meetings
with the ombudsman are held in Young Hall, Room 160.
Initial meetings are usually thirty to sixty minutes.
The setting is confidential to the degree allowed by law,
neutral, and informal. Occasionally, Dr. Atkinson
invites a second listener with expertise in a particular
area, like employment policies, to a follow-up meeting. |
To schedule an appointment with Dr. Atkinson, please contact
Joy Beckett at 765.494.0245 or by email at jbeckett@purdue.edu. Mrs.
