Students Learn About Graduate School Options At Purdue Expo |
| As many as 200 to 300 students are expected to attend the Big10+ Graduate School Exposition Sept. 25-26 at Purdue University.
The expo will feature information from more than 25 institutions and organizations, including the National Science Foundation. Workshops on funding graduate study, featuring a broad look at sources for money, also will be offered. Other workshops include how to apply to graduate school, choosing a graduate program and why to pursue a master's versus a doctoral degree.

The Graduate Teaching Certificate |
| To assist graduate students in developing teaching skills, while simultaneously documenting their teaching experiences and challenges for their resumes, The Center for Instructional Excellence offers a program called the Graduate Teaching Certificate.
The Graduate Teaching Certificate documents a graduate student’s involvement in actual classroom teaching and teacher development activities – e.g. pre-semester teaching orientations and workshops, Micro-teaching with consultative feedback, classroom visitations or videotaping, together with student and peer feedback and self-analyses.
Applications for the Graduate Teaching Certificate can be made through CIE by contacting Sara Jane Coffman at sjcoffman@purdue.edu.

Purdue Launches Broad Hurricane Relief Effort |
| Purdue University student groups, academic and administrative areas, and housing units have launched a broad initiative to offer relief to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Purdue officials offered immediate admittance to academically qualified students wishing to transfer from Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama institutions forced to suspend operations because of the hurricane. Meanwhile, student volunteers from about a dozen groups are leading campuswide efforts to raise money for hurricane relief through the Lafayette, Ind., chapter of the American Red Cross.

| Don't forget, the Graduate School offers academic departments and interdisciplinary graduate programs the opportunity to obtain prospective graduate student names and information at no risk or cost via the Educational Testing Services' (ETS) GRE Search Service.
The Graduate School funds the annual fee, along with one search per department or interdisciplinary graduate program each fiscal year. The department or interdisciplinary program is responsible for costs incurred beyond the first search.

Fall Workshops Announced |
| The Graduate School in conjunction with the Center for Career Opportunities and the Office of Psychological Services has scheduled a series of workshops for graduate students.
The workshops focus on resume development, student-teacher relationships, academic interviewing skills, tips for handling large classes, dissertation success strategies, University policies and procedures, teachers in film, and negotiating with advisors and committees.

Nominations Open for Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor Awards

| With the support of Provost Sally Mason, the Graduate School will recognize two graduate faculty members on the West Lafayette campus with awards of $2,500 each. The recipients will be announced at the spring Honors Convocation.
