Bilsland Strategic Initiatives Study Proposal
Abstract: The internet has become peoples number one source of information gathering,
especially among the Millennial Generation, also known as the Net Generation (Haworth
2002; Carlson 2005). The Millennial Generation1 of prospective graduate students are no
exception. In most cases, the first contact that a prospective graduate student has with a
graduate program is the departmental website. I propose a study that is designed to
improve departmental websites in order to attract qualified graduate students from
diverse backgrounds using two methods: 1- systematic usability testing and 2- focus
groups consisting of prospective graduate student participants.
