PULSe currently has over 150 enrolled students. While more than half of our student body is from the U.S.A., we maintain a strong international presence. PULSe students are from 29 different states and 15 countries. Please read on to learn more about the exciting graduate student experience that PULSe has to offer!

    Events:
Each academic year, PULSe hosts three events for students and faculty. These include a retreat, an open house, and a recruitment visit.

    Retreat:
At the start of the fall semester, the PULSe Retreat is held at the John S. Wright Center at Martell Forest . This events serves as a welcome to our new PULSe students and as a gathering for the diverse PULSe student body and faculty. The day includes poster sessions showcasing all available labs, discussion groups held by each Training Group, and a barbecue to allow some relaxation time.

    Fall Open House:
In the middle of the fall semester, PULSe invites prospective students to come to West Lafayette , to learn more about all that PULSe has to offer. This day includes a meet the faculty session, lunch with students, tours of facilities, and a student seminar presentation.

Recruitment Visit: In the spring semester, prospective students living in the U.S. that are given an offer of admission are invited to spend a couple of days at Purdue to learn about faculty research, student life, Purdue life science facilities, and the West Lafayette/Lafayette community.

Other Events: PULSe Faculty Seminar Series, PULSe Student Colloquium Series, and PULSe Student Organization events. Refer to the Calendar of Events for details.

    Financial Support

All students admitted to PULSe receive paid tuition and an assistantship for the duration of study, given solid academic standing and lab performance. The entire first year of funding allows students to complete core requirements and participate in laboratory rotations.

Financial support for students in subsequent years comes from training grants, research grants secured by the major professor, or research and/or teaching assistantships. The level of support in subsequent years will meet or exceed the level of support provided in the student's first year.

    Student Travel Awards

To emphasize the importance of graduate students attending and participating in scientific meetings, the PULSe Program will hold a Travel Award Competition twice per academic year (both fall and spring semesters) for students presenting at professional meetings. The fall semester deadline is October 15 and the spring semester deadline is April 15.

    PULSe Student Travel Award Allocations:
    Fall Deadline: October 15
    Spring Deadline: April 15

Awards will range from $150 to $500. $2500 is the maximum amount that will be allocated in the fall and again the spring. Award allocations will be based on the estimated need stated on the travel form, level of participation in the professional event, travel distance, and contributions to the PULSe Program.
